Apple orchard frost protection. In early April 2025, a prolonged and severe Advective frost event struck Western Virginia’s mountain orchards, with temperatures plunging to -11°C at 5 a.m. This type of late-season, high-altitude frost is particularly damaging during bloom, especially for vulnerable crops like apples, pears, apricots, peaches, and cherries.
