AntiFrost® - Increases Plant Resistance to Cold and Frost

AntiFrost® is a natural biostimulant that stimulates the production of anti-freeze proteins within the plant. These anti-freeze proteins prevent ice nucleation, and hence, cold and frost damages.

AntiFrost® is approved for organic use by the Soil Association.

Plants naturally protect themselves from the frost and cold by producing their own anti-freeze proteins. Some produce more than others based on their genetic properties and the environment they grow in.

CropAid AntiFrost® is a biological product. AntiFrost® contains thiobacillus bacteria and their produce of rusticyanin, oxaloacetic acid, and pyruvic acid. These are mixed with a special blend of minerals within the formulation.

We also produce a non-bacterial variant of AntiFrost®.

Product Information

Plants naturally protect themselves from the cold and frost by producing their own anti-freeze proteins. Some produce more than others based on their genetic properties and the environment they grow in.

CropAid AntiFrost® contains thiobacillus bacteria and their produce of rusticyanin, oxaloacetic acid, and pyruvic acid. These are mixed with a special blend of minerals within the formulation.

When the product is applied to plants, it is absorbed through the stomata of the leaves, stems, and roots which stimulates photosynthesis and the biochemical reactions of the plant’s natural Krebs Cycle. This then leads to the production of the plant’s own anti-freeze proteins and glycoproteins. These proteins interact with the water within plant cells, which reduces or stops ice nucleation, thus preventing cell rupture and death.

After the cold and frost stress is over, the surplus anti-freeze proteins will be converted into sugars, oils, vitamins, and proteins which the plant then consumes. This stimulates the growth of more buds and foliage, hence increasing the quality and yield of the plant.

The effect can last up to 14 days per application but is most effective within 48 hours after applications and within the surface where the product is applied.

CropAid AntiFrost® contains thiobacillus subspecies and minerals used by these bacteriums. For this reason, it is ecological and natural.

CropAid AntiFrost® was trialed by ADAS UK in 2006, confirming its efficacy.

FAQs

The shelf life of AntiFrost® is 3 years from the production date. Opening the product and exposing the contents to air will not affect the product shelf life.

Undiluted AntiFrost® has a pH of 2.1-2.5. Dilute with unchlorinated water and do not mix with alkaline or pesticide products. Please enquire if you plan to mix AntiFrost® with another product. Please also test mixes on a small area first to test compatibility.

A minimum of 48 hours.

The recommended pH for diluting AntiFrost® is pH6 or lower. Acidic regulators may be used in combination with water to reduce the pH down to the recommended level. We recommend citric acid as an acidic regulator.

Use a spray pressure of 3 bars (around 43.5 psi) or less in order to prevent potentially harming the bacteria.
